Coffee Roasting Machines
The delicate aroma and
deep rich flavor of coffee isn’t there naturally. That is
correct, if I were to show you a handful of green coffee beans
and told you to take a whiff, you probably would think they
were some sort of health food bean. The magical flavor and bold
body of coffee is created by a long bout of careful roasting.
The coffee roaster is the true transformer of coffee from green
and ordinary, to intoxicating extraordinary. What if you could
roast beans at home? With the advent of coffee roasting
machines; you can!
Why would you want to go through the trouble of roasting
your own coffee? Well, amongst the more obvious one of having
your house smell like delicious roasted coffee beans, you will
have so much control over the flavor, body, and roundness of
your finished brew that once you begin roasting at home, you
will never be able to go back.
Coffee comes green. When coffee is stored green, it will
keep its original freshness longer. When you take green coffee
home, you can control the quality of the green coffee beans you
order as well as the darkness of your roast-you can even roast
and drink your coffee on the same day. Nothing can compare to a
fresh roasted cup of coffee.
So, you have decided you might need to start roasting your
own coffee. How does a roaster work? Well, it quite simply is a
device that can distribute heat evenly to all the coffee beans
that are being roasted at one time. This is the key to a
smooth, even color. There are many types of roasters, the most
notable of which is the convection roaster which uses a stream
of hot air to roast the beans, and the older but no less
effective stirring roaster. A stirring roaster has a hot
surface in contact with the beans, and has a mixing mechanism
that constantly stirs the beans to make sure they are roasted
evenly. Stirring roasters are still used to roast large amounts
of beans by coffee roasters today. Many of the home coffee
roasters also have automatic roast timers and can be programmed
at the touch of a button for a certain darkness.
When you roast green coffee beans, the aroma emitted is
worth every penny that you paid for the coffee roasting
machine. Roasting coffee beans is what unlocks the deep rich
flavor that is enjoyed by coffee drinkers the world over. There
is an amazing array of reactions that happen within the green
coffee bean that include caramelization, which transforms the
green bean from ordinary to the bold and exotic dark roast
extraordinary.
